Obituary for Amy Jane Oberbauer

Amy Jane Oberbauer
Amy Jane Sutton Oberbauer, 70, of Manassas, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 10, 2017.

She was born on September 5, 1946, in Belleville, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Willard E. Sutton and Gertrude C. Eisenberg Sutton. She grew up and attended school in Belleville. On April 3, 1969, she married her loving husband of over 48 years, Earl John Oberbauer, Jr., who survives. They initially lived in Illinois and then Kansas City, Missouri. In May 1972, the family moved to Manassas, where they raised their two daughters, Leslie O. Kostelecky (Anthony) of Manassas and Laura E. Stark (Philip) of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Campbell of Columbia, Missouri and four grandchildren, John Kostelecky, Emma, Lucy and Sutton Stark; and many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was predeceased by an infant brother.

Amy was a devoted wife and mother, and a doting grandmother. As grandchildren arrived, they were the main focus in her life. Amy planned activities and travel to share time with them. In December 2016, we all enjoyed a wonderful Disney Cruise in the Caribbean, which Amy planned and coordinated. Most recently, on July 3, 2017, we were all together again in Virginia. Amy always loved to travel, especially with her family, which created many wonderful experiences and memories that we will cherish.

Amy was thoughtful and generous with her friends and the friends of her children. She made lasting friendships throughout her life, with childhood friends, numerous neighbors in Manassas and Surfside Beach, South Carolina and with co-workers while she worked for many years as a reservationist for United Airlines. She had a love of animals. She greatly enjoyed baseball games and had become a devoted Washington Nationals fan. She loved and was loved. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

A celebration of Amy’s life will be on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 10:00 – 12:00 noon at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Memorial Service will take place in the Chapel beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be private and take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial tribute or donation to:
The American Heart Association at www.donatenow.heart.org or the March of Dimes at www.marchforbabies.org or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Post. Please sign the guestbook at www.bakerpostfh.com.
